AMMWEC Marks 25th Anniversary of 9/11 by Standing with Victims' Families, Rejecting Extremism

NEW YORK CITY, NY, UNITED STATES, September 11, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- On the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, the American Muslim & Multifaith Women’s Empowerment Council (AMMWEC) is honoring the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost by standing with victims’ families and renewing its call for Americans to reject terrorism, antisemitism, political violence, and extremist ideologies in all their forms.

Leading up to the anniversary, AMMWEC President Anila Ali joined victims and families of 9/11, community activists, and New Yorkers outside the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) headquarters for the “Unite Against Terror” rally organized by the End Jew Hatred movement and the Lawfare Project. The rally focused on community opposition against the DSA and Mayor Mamdani. Participants stood alongside victims and families of 9/11 with a clear message to New York’s political leadership: terror and the ideologies that excuse or normalize it have no place on the streets of America.

Speaking as the president of a Muslim American organization, Ali addressed what she described as ideological threats facing the country. She characterized the ideology associated with Mayor Mamdani and the DSA as sharing similarities with the radical Islamist ideology espoused by al-Qaeda, the terrorist organization responsible for the Sept 11, 2001 attacks. We need to remain vigilant against extremist ideologies that seek acceptance within American political and civic life, Ali cautioned, adding, it was not a Republican problem, it was not a Democrat problem, it was an American problem.

The rally was held as Jewish communities in New York continue to express concern about antisemitism and anti-Jewish hate crimes. Muslim Americans must demonstrate moral clarity by rejecting attempts to rationalize terrorism or present extremist ideology as legitimate political activism, Ali said. "We cannot honor the victims of 9/11 while remaining silent when extremist ideas are repackaged as political activism,” she further emphasized that, “We have seen where radical ideology can lead. Twenty-five years later, we should have learned that lesson. Whether extremism emerges from religion, the far right, the far left, or a political movement, Americans must have the courage to reject it.”

AMMWEC thanked 'End Jew Hatred' and 'the Lawfare Project' for organizing the rally and for providing a platform where victims’ families, Jewish community members, Muslim allies, and other Americans could stand together against terrorism and hate.

“Our message is simple: we stand with the victims. We stand with their families. We stand with the Jewish community. And we stand with America,” Ali said. “We reject every ideology that seeks to divide this country through terrorism, antisemitism, intimidation, hatred, or violence.”

AMMWEC also honors the firefighters, police officers, emergency personnel, first responders, survivors, military families, and countless Americans whose lives were forever changed by the September 11 attacks.

“September 11 belongs to our national memory,” Ali said. “We owe it to those who were murdered, to their families, and to generations of Americans who came after them to tell the truth about what happened and make certain that extremist ideology never finds a comfortable home in America in any shape or form.”
