Iran Issues Ultimatum to US as Nuclear Talks, Ceasefire Stalemate Continue
In remarks posted on social media, Ghalibaf said Washington must recognize what he described as Iran’s “rights” under a proposed 14-point framework intended to end ongoing regional hostilities. He argued that failure to do so would result in continued deadlock and escalating costs.
According to reports, tensions remain high following the collapse of earlier negotiations and the continuation of a fragile ceasefire established in April, which US officials have reportedly described as unstable.
The statement followed US President Donald Trump rejecting Iran’s most recent counterproposal, with Washington and Tehran continuing to exchange blame over stalled diplomatic progress.
According to reports, Iran’s proposal calls for a broader regional settlement, including an end to hostilities across multiple fronts, easing of restrictions affecting Iranian assets abroad, and changes to the current sanctions framework. However, details of the US counterproposal remain limited publicly.
Iranian officials have also reiterated warnings that military escalation remains possible if negotiations fail, with parliamentary figures suggesting that further nuclear enrichment steps could be considered in the event of renewed conflict.
According to reports, Iran currently maintains significant stocks of highly enriched uranium, a central point of contention in negotiations, as the United States continues to demand that such material be transferred out of the country.
Tehran, meanwhile, maintains that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes and insists that enrichment levels remain open to negotiation, even as diplomatic talks remain stalled and regional tensions persist.
