Tehran Mourns Victims of Israeli Attacks

(MENAFN) Thousands of Iranian citizens assembled in Tehran on Saturday to participate in a memorial procession for those who lost their lives in the latest Israeli aerial assaults, which claimed the lives of senior military leaders, atomic experts, and ordinary people.

The procession started at Enghelab Square and proceeded toward Azadi Square, attracting a substantial turnout from various segments of Iranian society, including senior military and political representatives, an official Iranian press agency reported.

The occasion came after a declaration on Friday by Brig. Gen. Hassan Hassanzadeh, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander in Tehran, who described the funeral as a “national symbolic ceremony” honoring the individuals killed in the Israeli offensives, the news agency noted.

Hassanzadeh mentioned the ceremony would feature the symbolic interment of several prominent military personnel and civilians, although some victims had already been laid to rest in different parts of the country in previous days.

The confrontation, which lasted 12 days, began on June 13 when Israel initiated air raids targeting Iranian defense, nuclear, and non-military facilities, resulting in a death toll of no fewer than 606 individuals and injuring 5,332 more, according to Iran’s Health Ministry.

In retaliation, Tehran fired missiles and deployed drones against Israel, leading to the deaths of at least 29 individuals and injuring over 3,400, based on data released by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
