Vance claims Trump is not ‘dumb’ like previous US presidents
“We’re not at war with Iran—we’re at war with its nuclear program,” Vance said, describing the strikes as highly targeted and strategic. He acknowledged public concern over possible long-term entanglement but claimed this situation is different because of better leadership. “In the past, we had dumb presidents. Now, we have one who knows how to achieve national security goals,” he said.
Vance stressed the U.S. does not intend to deploy ground forces or pursue regime change. However, President Trump appeared to suggest otherwise in a Truth Social post, questioning why regime change wouldn't be appropriate if the current Iranian leadership cannot “MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN.”
Vance echoed Trump’s warnings to Iran against retaliation, calling any counterattack “the stupidest thing in the world” and vowing the U.S. would respond with overwhelming force if its personnel were harmed.
Despite criticism over the lack of congressional approval, Vance maintained the strike was legal, arguing the president has the authority to act against weapons of mass destruction. Meanwhile, Russia condemned the justification, drawing parallels to the 2003 Iraq invasion and accusing the U.S. of repeating history with unfounded WMD claims.
